We are so lucky on the Peninsula to have two very wonderful grocery stores. Both Peacock’s and Hellyer’s are responsive to consumer requests and are always ready to partner with community groups. Our schools, St. Edmund’s and BPDS, have been on the receiving end of the generosity of these two businesses.
So, getting ready for this September’s challenge, check them out for local products! The Foodland Ontario signage will point out in-season Ontario produce. Ontario berries, plums, peaches, corn, tomatoes, are all coming our way. But don’t limit yourself to just thinking about produce!
There are many items that are produced locally or in Ontario. Consider regional cleaning products, like Barclay’s from Dobbinton. Fresh local fish, like whitefish, splake and trout, are often featured. Local honey, eggs, soap, Chapman’s ice cream, Five Roses Flour, Windsor or Sifto Salt, maple syrup can all be sourced on our local stores.
Have some fun reading labels and sent us a message to share what other local products you have found. Help out with our “Go Local”challenge.
