Each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals has a series of targets that have been identified as keys to success in that particular goal. Here are the targets for the goal of "Life Below Water".
By 2025, reduce marine pollution of all kinds.
By 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems.
Minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification.
By 2020, regulate harvesting and end over-fishing and other destructive fishing practices, and implement science-based management plans.
By 2020, conserve at least 10% of coastal and marine areas.
By 2020, prohibit or eliminate fisheries subsidies that promote over-fishing or other destructive fishing practices.
By 2030, increase the economic benefits to Small Island developing States and least developed countries from the sustainable use of marine resources.
Improve ocean health by increasing scientific knowledge and research capacity, especially in Small Island developing states.
Provide access for small-scale artisanal fishers to marine resources and markets.
Enhance the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and their resources by implementing international law.
